Joburg Tourism is proud to announce that its immersive destination brand film, Welcome2Joburg – It’s where you want to be!, has been awarded a Silver Certificate at the International Tourism Film Festival Africa (ITFFA) 2026 Awards Ceremony, held on Friday, 5 June 2026, at The Bannister Hotel in Braamfontein, Johannesburg.

The recognition follows the film’s earlier selection as a finalist among 438 entries from 47 countries, affirming Johannesburg’s growing global appeal as a vibrant tourism and cultural destination.

Receiving the award on behalf of Joburg Tourism, Executive Head: Destination Marketing & Events, Belu Mabandla, reflected on the significance of the accolade and the city’s powerful story.

“Johannesburg is a city that never stands still. It is a place of rhythm and resilience, of creativity and culture, of people whose energy lights up every street corner,” said Ms Mabandla. “This film was created to capture that spirit — to show the world that Joburg is not just a destination, but an experience.”

The Welcome2Joburg film showcases the essence of Johannesburg through compelling visuals, local storytelling and authentic experiences that highlight the city’s diversity, innovation, creativity and cultural richness.

Ms Mabandla noted that the award belongs not only to Joburg Tourism, but to the people of Johannesburg, who continue to shape the city’s identity and energy.

The International Tourism Film Festival Africa is the continent’s premier tourism film festival and forms part of the global Cinetour network, which promotes tourism storytelling and collaboration among filmmakers and tourism professionals worldwide.

Joburg Tourism would like to express appreciation to the ITFFA organisers and jury for recognising the impact and creativity of the film.

“To be acknowledged among 438 entries from 47 countries is a powerful affirmation. It tells us that Joburg’s story resonates far beyond our borders,” Ms Mabandla added.

The award reinforces Johannesburg’s position as a leading African urban tourism destination and highlights the important role that film and visual storytelling play in driving destination awareness, tourism growth and economic development.
