Automotive aftermarket buyers, workshop owners and fleet operators from across Southern Africa are gearing up for the continent’s premier automotive trade event: Automechanika Johannesburg 2026.
Taking place at Gallagher Convention Centre from 27 to 29 October 2026, the trade fair connects regional buyers with global parts manufacturers, replacement component brands, diagnostic specialists and workshop equipment suppliers
“Automechanika Johannesburg is a catalyst for regional businesses seeking aftermarket opportunities and reliable supply partnerships,” says Michael Dehn, Managing Director of Messe Frankfurt South Africa.
Visitors will meet international pavilions and leading brands across powertrain, braking, suspension, steering, hydraulics, tyres, batteries, collision repair and digital diagnostics.
For importers, distributors and procurement managers, the three-day event offers a focused platform to negotiate direct dealership agreements, secure competitive wholesale terms and find alternative sourcing routes.
Regional momentum gathers pace
Regional momentum continues through the Automechanika Africa Connect roadshows, which recently engaged industry bodies, parts distributors and fleet operators in Zambia and Zimbabwe.
The roadshows foster cross-border trade, strengthen SADC supply chains and demonstrate the commercial value of attending Automechanika Johannesburg.
“The Africa Connect roadshows underscored the urgent need for aftermarket businesses to modernise services and supply capabilities amid rapid global supply-chain change,” Mr Dehn continued.
In Lusaka and Harare, keynote speaker Greg Cress, Principal Director for Automotive and eMobility at Accenture South Africa, examined the “Five Forces Driving Unprecedented Change in Automotive in 2026”.
Mr Cress linked advances in battery chemistry, autonomous driving, digital infrastructure, AI and software manufacturing to commercial opportunities across Africa.
“African raw material producers have a strong advantage in supplying global battery production,” Mr Cress said.
“Local manufacturing hubs can deliver tailored electric mobility solutions for freight, mining, and public transport fleets across Southern Africa,” he added.
He also highlighted advances in energy density and charging speeds, with next-generation solid-state batteries and ultra-fast charging systems reaching ranges above 1 500 kilometres. These gains could address distance and grid constraints across key Southern African corridors.
Autonomous safety features and Vehicle-to-Everything connectivity are also reshaping the industry, while ADAS adoption creates commercial opportunities for regional businesses.
Bringing it all together
“Our Africa Connect engagements confirmed that Southern African automotive enterprises want to expand supplier networks, adopt modern diagnostics and source proven components directly from world-class brands. The Gallagher Convention Centre show is designed to deliver those connections under one roof,” Mr Dehn stated.
“By combining forward-looking insights with hundreds of suppliers, Automechanika Johannesburg 2026 will equip regional buyers with the inventory and expertise needed to thrive in a changing automotive landscape,” he concluded.
Registration is open, and industry professionals are encouraged to secure free trade visitor tickets ahead of the event. Register here to visit Automechanika Johannesburg 2026: https://app.messereg.com/events/visitor/automechanika-johan2026
