Joburg Tourism partners with Automechanika to drive business to Joburg

June sees the return of the global Automechanika Exhibition at Nasrec Expo Centre from 7-10 June — and Joburg Tourism Convention Bureau is thrilled to be partnering with organisers, MesseFrankfurt, to support this four-day event.

“One of the Tourism Directorate’s strategic objectives is to increase the number of tourists coming to the City through participation at various tourism platforms and partnering with Business Tourism events hosted in the City,” says Councillor Nkululeko Mbundu, MMC for Economic Development at the City of Joburg.

“Hosting these business events helps in promoting and positioning Joburg as a top business and leisure tourism destination in the African continent, making the city remain globally competitive, as well as contributing positively to local businesses, especially small and medium businesses, in order to grow the economy,” says Mbundu.

The Automechanika Joburg 2022 Trade Fair is part of the global network of Automechanika business to business (B2B) automotive shows and serves the sub-Saharan African Region. It is also South Africa’s leading international trade fair for the automotive service industry; targeting trade visitors from all over the globe as well as from the Sub-Saharan Africa Region. Participating exhibitors use this platform to showcase their product offerings, launch new innovative products, engaging other partners on possible partnerships and knowledge transfer, learning about best practices in the industry.

According to the analysts, over 620 exhibitors and approximately 13,000 trade visitors will take part in the event.

As a collaborative partner, Joburg Tourism is supporting the exhibition by:

  • Providing market access to 40 local SMMEs (20 from the automotive industry, 15 from the arts and crafts sector and five from the tourism sector);
  • Hosting of the Captains of Industry Breakfast and
  • An airport welcome for delegates.

The City’s support for an event like Automechanika demonstrates Johannesburg’s readiness to host global events in the post-pandemic era, the importance of hosting business events to attract visitors to the City, as well as the City’s Trade & Investment Department’s objective of using the platform to open opportunities to local SMMEs, while attracting large investors to the City.

Automechanika Johannesburg 2022 is regarded as the best B2B event of the year in this sector due to the high number of participants and the plethora of products. The primary exhibition floor will showcase the latest products in the many sectors:

  • Accessories & Customising
  • Management & Digital Solutions
  • Repair & Maintenance
  • Car Wash, Care & Reconditioning
  • Safari and Off-Road Vehicles and Trailers

The expo also has an extensive side-programme, including product demos, Body & Paint world Championships, Tyre Changing Competition, and many others. This will additionally stimulate networking and contracting between professionals from the entire region.

As these platforms are attended by the influential trade partners; they serve as valuable marketing and networking opportunities, allowing not only for the creation and consolidation of new business and trade opportunities, but helping boost confidence and economic growth for the destination. To date the exhibition, which is hailed as the meeting place for automotive industry for equipment, parts, accessories, management and services is hosted on four continents and in five cities- including Birmingham, Frankfurt, Dubai, Shanghai, Istanbul and Johannesburg.
