Setting the standard for hospitality representation for more than 17 years, Southern Spoor Marketing is renowned for representing some of South Africa’s most unique and iconic hospitality establishments. The company is pleased to announce that Zuurberg Mountain Village has joined the Southern Spoor portfolio of privately owned hotels and lodges, complementing the collection with its history, location and country charm.

“As a long-standing participant in the South African tourism industry, we are delighted to welcome an industry stalwart who has played a key role in promoting the Eastern Cape and the Addo region in particular,” says Anita Foxcroft, director of Southern Spoor Marketing. “Henri Alant, the owner of Zuurberg Mountain Village, is a well-known figure in the industry and is as passionate about hospitality as we are. We’re looking forward to showcasing Zuurberg in our portfolio.”

Zuurberg Mountain Village is situated at the top of the historic Zuurberg Pass that was built in the 1850s as the main route between Port Elizabeth and the Karoo. Only one hour’s drive from Port Elizabeth and 20 km from the main camp at Addo Elephant National Park, it is an ideal base from which to explore the 145 000-hectare malaria-free reserve. Addo is home to over 600 elephants as well as all other members of the Big Five, and numerous adventures such as open-vehicle game drives, walking trails and elephant interaction experiences can be booked as part of a stay at Zuurberg Mountain Village. There’s also horse riding available nearby as well as mountain biking, hiking and birdwatching on the 160-hectare mountain top retreat.

The Zuurberg Manor is the original part of the hotel dating back to 1861, and has nine en suite bedrooms that have been fully renovated and tastefully decorated to reflect the hotel’s heritage. These rooms are specious enough to accommodate families. Additional accommodation is offered at the Zuurberg Village, which comprises 23 individual cottages with front and back views across the valley and mountains. These charming cottages feature modern bathrooms with freestanding Victorian baths and outdoor showers.

Facilities at the hotel include an excellent restaurant serving country cuisine, one of the last genuine English pubs in the country, a wine room, a swimming pool, tennis courts, and a spa offering a full range of therapies, a sauna and spa bath.

Corporate facilities include a conference venue for 40 pax and a boardroom for 12 pax.
