Mhondoro Game Lodge Spa

Mhondoro Game Lodge, a luxurious 5-star safari lodge recently opened in Welgevonden Game Reserve in the Waterberg (Limpopo province) as the perfect ‘pampering destination’ in the bush. Unique to the lodge is a dedicated dual-treatment Massage Suite with a private, outdoor spa deck and bath. A variety of massage treatments are offered, along with manicures and pedicures.

The Mhondoro Hot Candle Signature treatment starts with a relaxing 15-minute foam bath and a complimentary glass of wine or home-made ice tea overlooking the reserve and the waterhole, followed by a 45-minute Hot Candle Massage to unwind and soothe mind, body and soul. The rich aroma of the natural fragrances rejuvenates the senses while the warm oil is absorbed efficiently by skin, making it feel supple and nourished. (R700)

RAIN products are used for all body treatments. An all-South African, 100% natural product range, it is a specialised skincare range harnessing the science of nature and is packed with anti-oxidants, botanical extracts and plant based actives. The Biologie range used at Mhondoro are biodegradable, environment-friendly, specialized products designed to care for hair, feet and hands.

Biologie is proudly eco-ethical, formulated using organically certified botanical ingredients and sustainably wild-harvested plant oils and extracts. Key ingredients include organic, wild-harvested super oils from indigenous African plants, all high in anti-oxidants, vitamins and omega fatty acids to nourish and protect the skin against free radical damage.

From the mongongo nut comes a vitamin E-rich oil with hydrating, regenerative and restructuring properties. The seed of the marula fruit is the source of the new “miracle oil” in the cosmetics industry. Highly nourishing and hydrating, it softens and revitalises the skin while its potent anti-oxidants scavenge for damaging free radicals.

Kalahari melon has superb moisturising, regenerative and restructuring properties. Soothing, hydrating baobab oil contains vitamins A, D, E and F. It is easily and absorbed by the skin leaving no greasiness. Mafura butter is rich in essential fatty acids and has anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory properties as well as being a free radical scavenger.

Located in the heart of the malaria-free, ‘Big 5’ reserve, Mhondoro sleeps a total of only 20 guests, and includes a Villa that can accommodate six guests. Dutch-owned, Mhondoro is a fusion of African chic and edgy European influences, decorated by interior designer Myriam Vogel, the wife of the owner. The lodge features spectacular views and luxury accommodation, fine cuisine and passionate hospitality and service.

Unique features at Mhondoro include a custom-built stargazing ‘star deck’; and a waterhole with underground game viewing hide that is connected with the main lodge by a tunnel. At ground level, the hide provides excellent photographic opportunities from a distinctive perspective, as well as the excitement of getting really up close, anytime day or night, to elephants and other wildlife drinking from the waterhole. Other lodge facilities extend to a gym and heated swimming pools for all year-round swimming.
