The festive season is in full swing at Selborne Park Golf Estate on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast where a line-up of enticing activities will keep everyone entertained.

Nature lovers will be kept busy on Saturday 12 December as renowned ornithologists, Andrew Pickles and Bruce Padbury, lead visitors along the newly opened Faye Barker Nature Trail. Starting at 6.30am at the Club House, the informative walk should be completed before lunch.

Bustling with a variety of indigenous birdlife and wildlife, the enchanting trail winds its way along boardwalks and bridges through Selborne’s natural vegetation. Suitable for hikers of all ages, the nature trail offers a number of bail out points for those looking for a shorter route.

The trail is situated within the secure estate, offering hikers peace of mind. Book your spot now through Selborne’s reception as there are only 30 spaces available.

Wildlife enthusiasts must be sure not to miss a talk by Yvette Ehlers Smith, a PhD student at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, who will be talking on ‘Wildlife of the Southern Indian Ocean Coastal Forest Belt’.

The hour-long talk – which will take place at midday on Tuesday 15 December at the Club House – will focus on Ms Ehlers Smith’s research of the incredible eco-system found within the forests of the South Coast. Using a collection of rare images she has taken using infrared motion-censored cameras, Ms Ehlers Smith hopes to improve public understanding of these endangered creatures while creating conservation awareness.

Selborne’s restaurant and bar facilities will be open to visitors following the talk, at visitors’ expense. There is no cost for the talk although donations towards Ehler Smith’s research are welcome.

This month’s scrumptious spit braai will take place on Friday 18 December at the Club House and everyone is welcome to attend. Starting at 10.30am, meals will include the succulently roasted meat as well as salads and breads.

Anyone interested in an informative night-time stroll will have the perfect opportunity on Tuesday 22 December when Craig Thomassen and the University of KwaZulu-Natal Marevol (Marine Evolution Lab) will lead the group on a night-time beach walk starting at the Beach Club at 6pm. Mr Thomassen – a Pennington local – is the presenter of South Africa’s premier lure TV fishing show, Inside Angling. He will provide extraordinary insights into the inhabitants of the rock pools he knows so well. Visitors can contact the Selborne Body Corporate on 039- 9758500 for directions to the Beach Club.

There will be a cheery Christmas Eve dinner at the Club House from 6pm to 9pm. This will be a delicious set menu at a cost of R125 per person. Space is limited so bookings are essential.

The clock is winding down so make sure you book your spot at Selborne Park Golf Club’s annual New Year’s Bash dinner and dance.

To get everyone into the jovial spirit, Selborne will be hosting an exciting New Year’s golf competition at 11am on 31 December. Open to everyone looking for a fun game, the format for this competition is a betterball stableford with bookings running from 11.32am to 12.44pm. A jumping castle will keep children entertained on the day.

The competition will be followed by the New Year’s dinner and dance at the Club House starting at 6.30pm with the golf prize giving taking place during the evening. Live music by popular band, KGB, will get guests into the party mood with a dinner buffet starting at 8pm at a cost of R350pp.
