The year 2015 has been a phenomenal one for the Ticketpro Dome and this past month has been no exception as the venue continues to go bigger than ever with record-breaking events.|
The venue was all the rAge again from October 9 to 11, when the really Awesome gaming expo lived up to its name in jaw-dropping fashion. More than 33 000 geeks, gamers and cosplayers set all-time high attendance figures as they descended in their techno-hoards for three days of the latest innovations and out-of-this-world experiences.
On October 17, the red carpet was rolled out for the who’s who in South Africa’s political, business, sporting and entertainment spheres at the spectacular South African of the Year Awards.
The glittering ceremony saw the Ticketpro Dome build one of the largest stages ever to accommodate the host of achievers who collected accolades in the various categories, including the South African of the Year award, which went to African Union chairperson Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma.
Local rapper Cassper Nyovest made good on his promise to #FillUpTheDome – without the aid of any international supporting artists – when he played to a capacity crowd on October 31. When he sang “Mama I made it”, his mother sitting in the audience could happily agree.
Homegrown talent Nyovest was the latest in a succession of musical superstars to grace the stage this year, including The Script, Michael Bublé, Chris Brown, Marvin Sapp, Trey Songz, Toni Braxton, Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds, Jason Derulo, One Republic and, most recently, Pharrell Williams.
Looking ahead to the rest of November, the momentum continues with the venue playing host to the Expo for Johannesburg’s biggest cycle race – the Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge. Number collection will take place alongside the Expo from November 12 to 14. Cyclists will once again meet at the venue for the social warm-up Twitter Ride, which takes place the day before the main race.
Aspiring lensmen can also look forward to developing their talents at the Photo & Film Expo from November 19 to 22, while pregnant couples will have great expectations ahead of the four-day MamaMagic -The Baby Expo from November 26.
Two groundbreaking concerts – the BET Africa Experience on December 12 and Boyz II Men & Joe three days later – bring down the curtain on a festive 2015!
