Born and bred in Johannesburg, Sabine’s first job was in reception at the Balalaika Hotel, where she realised her future was in the hospitality industry. Sabine obtained her Hospitality Management Diploma in 1999 as well as a BBA Degree in Hospitality Management in 2000 from Les Roches, the Swiss Hotel School in Switzerland.
She then gained practical experience by working at 5-star establishments in London, followed by Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands and further hotel experience in Hamburg, Germany. Missing South Africa, she returned home to join the Sandton Sun, and after several years, worked at Morrells as General Manager. In October 2010 Sabine joined Clico Boutique Hotel as General Manager, where she has established a superb team, dedicated to personalised service and quality oriented hospitality. She is fluent in English, German and Spanish.
Says owner Jeanette Schwegman: “Sabine has proven to be an enormous asset to our chic hotel and has managed the new developments at Clico superbly.”
The new Clico Restaurant was launched in early October 2015, comprising a newly built restaurant, a refurbished kitchen as well as guest parking area. These refreshing design changes complement the chic hospitality, intimate function facilities and fine dining as well as delectable wine tasting events on offer and favoured by regular guests year in and year out.
The delicate lighting, slim horizontal beams and materials, all chosen and designed in the style of antiquated romanticism, lend an elegance and simplicity to the layout.
Clico was awarded the coveted Certificate of Excellence for 2014 by TripAdvisor, whilst voted into the top 25 Top Small Hotel as well as Top Luxury Hotel lists in South Africa by TripAdvisor travellers for 2014; the hotel featured in the Eat Out website’s Best of Guide for Johannesburg in 2012, 2013 and 2014 in the Fine Dining category.
