The Tourism Business Council of South Africa (“TBCSA”) congratulates Victor Tharage on his appointment as Director-General (“DG”) of the National Department of Tourism (“NDT”).
Tharage’s appointment was confirmed in a Cabinet Statement issued by the Presidency yesterday. He takes up his new position, ahead of the Department’s official launch of Tourism Month.
“On behalf of the TBCSA and TOMSA Boards and Levy Contributors, we congratulate the Minister of Tourism Derek Hanekom and Mr Tharage on this important appointment ahead of the start of the tourism season and Tourism Month celebrations”, says TBCSA CEO, Mmatšatši Ramawela. “Having engaged and worked with Mr Tharage on numerous industry programmes, including the development and implementation of the National Tourism Sector Strategy and the revision of the Tourism BEE Scorecard, we can safely say that the industry will have a capable partner and will be behind him”.
Ramawela said the Council looks forward to resuming holding its quarterly TBCSA/NDT bi-lateral meetings, as soon as Tharage has settled into his new role. “There is lot of work to be done and its pleasing to know that we will not be starting from zero since Tharage has been part of the NDT and the industry for some time now” concludes Ramawela.
