South Africa’s leading international meetings destination, Cape Town, is preparing to host the jewel in BestCities’ crown – the annual client workshop – and it is testament to the city’s appeal and reputation as a meetings destination that it is attracting a record number of international associations.
Host of this year’s event is the Cape Town & Western Cape Convention Bureau, (CTWCCB) which was recently awarded the South African Association for the Conference Industry (SAACI) Members’ Award for Best Convention Bureau in South Africa.
The 2014 client workshop will be held on the 8-10 December and representatives of 22 international associations from a range of market sectors including pharmaceutical, medical, science, academia and technology will come together in Cape Town staying at the Westin Hotel Cape Town.
According to BestCities board chair Karen Bolinger, the client workshop has proven to be one of the most successful services offered by the alliance for both meeting planner and partner bureau.
“The client workshop is very much our signature event as it enables clients to gain a unique insight into BestCities as well as the destination. All partners share their top clients list and extend a personal invitation to each of the selected association executives.
“The hosting partner showcases their city, conference facilities and business acumen to a handpicked audience and all ten BestCities partners have the chance to build a stronger relationship with meeting planners they may not have had the opportunity to meet on their own,” Ms Bolinger said.
“This year we are also delighted to report that PCMA will be joining us in Cape Town bringing a strong educational component to the Client Forum.”
Guests will be given a spectacular welcome on top of Table Mountain before the official schedule gets underway at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. The two day program includes one-on-one meetings with all 10 BestCities convention bureaux followed by the Client Forum which will be delivered by Sherrif Karamat, chief operating officer of PCMA in conjunction with board chair Karen Bolinger.
“Cape Town is a sophisticated and competitive business events destination and we are very excited to have the opportunity to open our doors to international meeting professionals through the Client Workshop,” said Thiru Naidoo, business development-international sales and marketing of CTWCCB.
