Askari Game Lodge & Spa in Magaliesburg, home to the “Big 5”, is expanding. Ten new double units will be added, increasing the lodge capacity to 50 rooms.
The new family suites are positioned behind the amphitheatre and Plumari Heritage Museum and separated from the honeymoon suite and dam-facing units by a new pool area and kiddies play area.
According to managing director Kosie Pansegrouw, extension of the room capacity was planned from inception, but phase one only included the conference centre. “Due to high demand from leisure, as well as corporate clients, we now feel the time is right to proceed with phase two. The addition of 10 new luxury family chalets will cater for the corporate market as well as afford families the opportunity of experiencing Askari Game Lodge & Spa together.
The 162 square metre chalets have been designed to complement the traditional farmhouse style of Askari Game Lodge. Architect Wynand du Plessis, from DBM Architects, explains that materials such as rough-cast plaster, natural stone and corrugated iron roofs were used to express an old world charm. “Details such as antique clay pot chimneys and rustic timber elements, contribute to the traditional design. The chalets are intended to continue the old-world atmosphere that is created by the many antiques and “ossewaens” (ox wagons) on display at Askari Game Lodge and in the Heritage museum.”
Expected completion of this phase is March 2015.
