After the hosting of its annual conference, the Southern Africa Tourism Services Association (SATSA) has been inundated with positive praise from industry attendees as well as high-level government officials.
Held at Spier Wine Farm in Stellenbosch on 8-9 August 2014, the annual conference looked to the theme “New Opportunities” to draw inspiration around the panel discussion topics and speakers. The conference was attended by almost 230 key industry personalities, including Minister of Tourism, Derek Hanekom.
“As a team, SATSA is really proud of the packed house and the industry’s enthusiasm for the topics we chose to include on the programme. While there is obviously room for improvement, our refreshed format and inclusive amphitheatre set-up was a success for us,” says SATSA chief executive officer David Frost.
Mr Frost furthers that the attendance of high level government officials from both a provincial and national level are a coup for the tourism industry. “The marriage of private and public sector are the only way forward to enhance the development of this industry, the accessibility of these individuals at our conference opened up channels of engagement and gave tourism businesses the chance to air any grievances as well as offer constructive solutions to the problems we face as a sector,” furthers Mr Frost.
SATSA will be sending out a survey to attendees for further feedback on the conference. Any suggested adjustments of the format or critique will be taken under consideration for future conferences.
