Cape Town and South Africa has recently been awarded the opportunity to host the IAPCO 2016 Annual Meeting. IAPCO, the International Association of Professional Congress Organisers was founded in 1968 and currently has 114 accredited members from more than 40 countries. An annual meeting is held annually, most recently in Melbourne and Dublin, with Lisbon hosting in 2015.
“It is a great opportunity”, says Keith Burton, managing director of African Agenda and the hosting member for the 2016 meeting. “IAPCO members are the ‘crème de la crème’ of international conference organisers; combined they arranged in excess of 6 500 meetings in 2012, some 2,567 million delegates, 573,294 square metres exhibition space, 2,181 room nights and a total estimated value of €4,5-billion. This is an influential group of people with some serious spending power.”
“It is planned to coincide the IAPCO meeting with Meetings Africa so that meeting attendees can also participate in the show and add to the potential of the hosted buyers programme. There is the opportunity for pre-meetings and educational trips to take place throughout South Africa in other suitable meeting destinations; although the meeting is in Cape Town, it is the country that we really wish to showcase.”
